A year after he scored his first Number 1 single, BRITs Critics' Choice Award winner Sam Smith scores his third Number 1 single.
Sam Smith has gone straight in at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart today with Stay With Me.
The track is the third single to be lifted from his debut album, In The Lonely Hour, which is released tomorrow (May 26), and the third the 22-year-old’s has appeared on to reach Number 1 in the UK.
Sam scored his first UK chart topper a year ago this week, featuring on Naughty Boy’s La La La. The track ended Daft Punk’s four-week run at Number 1 with Get Lucky. After winning the Critics’ Choice award at this year’s BRITs, Sam’s follow-up single, Money On My Mind, also debuted at Number 1.
"I don't even know what to say,” a stunned Sam told OfficialCharts.com when he heard the news. “I really poured my heart into this record and I'm just so happy people love this song. Thank you so much."
Mr Probz’ laidback summer anthem, Waves, holds firm at Number 2 today, while British/Ghanaian singer/songwriter Fuse ODG scores his highest charting UK single to date with Dangerous Love FT Sean Paul (Number 3). The 26-year-old’s previous chart best was Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad) which peaked at Number 5 in January of this year.
Last week’s chart topper, I Will Never Let Your Down, by Rita Ora, slides three places to Number 4, while Extraordinary by Clean Bandit FT Sharna Bass is new in at Number 5. Extraordinary is the follow-up to the classical crossover quartet’s Number 1 smash, Rather Be FT Jess Glynne, which spent four weeks at Number 1 back in January.
New Entries and High Climbers
In addition to Sam Smith’s Stay With Me (Number 1), Fuse ODG’s Dangerous Love FT Sean Paul (3) and Clean Bandit’s Extraordinary FT Sharna Bass (5), there are four other new entries in today’s Official Singles Chart Top 40.
Coldplay’s A Sky Full Of Stars is new in at Number 15, while Afrojack’s Ten Feet Away debuts at 20.
A week ahead of its June 1 release date, Little Mix’s Salute makes its Top 40 debut climbing 16 places to Number 35, and, after just 48 hours on sale, Nicki Minaj’s Pills N Potions is new in at 38.
This week’s highest climber is German/Russian DJ and producer Zedd’s Clarity. The 2013 track, which also features Foxes, has surged 25 places to Number 40 today.
