Rockford’s Phantom Regiment May Sit Again A top The DCI Championship (Drum Corps International World)


One year soon, can the Phantom Regiment Rockford back down the top of the Drum Corps International World.
Since winning the DCI Championship in 2008, the regiment's return to climb to the top, finishing ninth in 2009, the fifth and sixth in 2010 - nearly one quarter - this year.
The Regiment scored a season high 95.05 points tonight at Lucas Oil Stadium, only 0.25 behind in fourth place Carolina Crown from Fort Mill, SC, which scored 95.3.
First place went to The Cadets of Allentown, Pennsylvania, whose fifth DCI championship won by wider, their previous margins on these championships on the two-time defending champion Blue Devils of Concord, Calif. The Cadets scored 98.35 points while the Blue Devils scored 97.8. In the preliminaries and semifinals, the margin between the two is 0.5 points. The Cavaliers of Rosemont scored 96.85 to finish third.
Regiment Carolina Crown beat with 0.25 points in the overall effect, 38.25 to 38, and 0.3 in visual effects, from 28.75 to 28.45, but Carolina Crown took advantage in a 28.85 to 28.05 the music.
The Cadets won best overall general effect and best visual performance awards and their drum major, Ben Pouncey, was named best drum major. The Cavaliers won the best percussion award, best buyer Carolina Crown and the Blue Devils best color guard.

The Phantom Regiment, three fifth place finishes (preliminaries, semifinals, finals) in the championship gave them five firsts, four seconds, 10 thirds, two fourths, 11 fifths and sixth in 33 events this summer. Two other performances were rained out.
The Regiment has not beaten one of the top four bands in this years championship since winning the title in 2008.
