Tips to tackle swollen feet

Whether it's due to the heat or pregnancy issues or even stress, swollen feet can wreck havoc on your daily routine. Here are a few remedies to help soothe those throbbing feet:
Cut back on your salt intake as salt contributes to water retention / oedema in feet.
Opt for sodium-free salt instead.
Lie on the ground, with your feet at least 12 inches above the level of your heart. Remaining in this position for 10-15 minutes, three or four times a day, will prove extremely beneficial.
If your weight is on the higher side, losing those extra kilos would be an ideal option to consider. Excess weight not only puts pressure on the veins, but also slows the circulation of body fluids, thereby causing swollen feet.
Standing or sitting in the same position for long hours contributes to swelling of the feet. In case you have been sitting for long time, make sure you get up and walk every one or two hours. The reverse applies if you have been standing for a long time.
Soak feet in hot and cold water alternately for 10-15 minutes each.
Sleep with your feet in an elevated position by placing a pillow under your ankles. Also, avoid sleeping with your feet placed directly under the fan.
Improve circulation by massaging your feet with herbal oils. Using warm oil can have a soothing effect.
Increasing your water intake can be extremely advantageous in case of swollen feet. Also, staying sufficiently hydrated during the summer is important.
Avoid the intake of certain drugs, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and calcium channel blockers.
Lastly, exercise on a regular basis to improve circulation, thereby reducing any chances of getting swollen feet.

Indonesia:plane crashes off Papua

There were no survivors of the crash of an Indonesian passenger plane into the sea with up to 27 people aboard, a navy officer said.

The plane went to sea in bad weather shortly before the runway serving the small port of Kaimana, in the eastern province of West Papua.

Fifteen bodies have been recovered by rescuers searching for survivors.

"I can confirm that all passengers were slain when the plane exploded as it crashed into the sea," the unnamed naval officer, who participated in the search and rescue operation, told ElShinta radio.

"The aircraft was beaten to pieces ... We have found 15 bodies floating on the water and the other passengers are trapped in the wreck."

Ministry of Transport official Bambang Being told AFP news agency there were 21 passengers and six crew members aboard the twin turbo-prop aircraft operated by Merpati Airlines, which flew from the coastal city of Sorong.

Indonesia has seen a number of commercial airline crashes in recent years.

In 2007, the European Union banned all Indonesian airlines including national carrier Garuda.

In 2009, Garuda and three other carriers taken from the EU list, but remains on Merpati Airlines.
