Versatile Indian actor Shammi Kapoor is deceased after a long career in Bollywood. He was 79.
His doctor says Gandhi Bhupendra Kapoor was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai two days ago in critical condition. He was on dialysis and died Sunday of kidney failure.
Kapoor was applauded for his lighthearted roles in movies. He was one of Bollywood's famous Kapoor family.
His brothers Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor were also successful actors, and his father, Prithviraj Kapoor, was a famous theatrical personalities of the 1950s.
Shammi Kapoor made his debut in Bollywood in 1953 and appeared in successful films such as "Junglee" and "Professor". He also appeared in "Brahmchari" and "Janwar. "
He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter.
Bollywood stars Shammi Kapoor, 79-year old and Shashi Kapoor, 72-year old are both hospitalized in Mumbai with critical conditions on Janauary 2011.
