Saturday, May 17, 2014: Google has denied all the reports claiming that it fixed the Indian Lok Sabha elections. According to a report from The Guardian, Computer Business Review posted a story titled “How Google search results are influencing elections”.
Google has gone ahead to rubbish all such claims and has said that the search results reflect what's on the web. A Google spokesperson has said that the company 'rigourously' protects the integrity of its algorithms. The spokesperson also claimed that if the company changes its course, it would affect the trust that people enjoy in the company and its search results.
The furore was created by a press release put out on 13 May by the American Institute for Behavioral Research and Technology, an independent research organisation based in California. The institute had released a report headlined “Could Google have fixed the Lok Sabha elections? A landmark new study in India shows it’s possible”.
