Carrie Underwood’s fans used their voting power to help the country superstar land the Milestone Award at Sunday night's 2014 Billboard Music Awards. Kelly Rowland presented the award to Carrie, along with a music fan who won the opportunity to co-present.
"I truly have the best fans in the world," Carrie said in her acceptance speech.
The Milestone Award recognizes musical innovation. Last year's winner was Justin Bieber.
Carrie beat fellow finalists OneRepublic and Ellie Goulding in the category that started with six nominees. The other three, who were eliminated before the start of the show, were Imagine Dragons, John Legend and Luke Bryan.
But that doesn't mean Luke walked away from the show empty-handed. He was the night's Top Country Artist winner, and also won the Top Country Album award for "Crash My Party."
Florida Georgia Line, along with Nelly, won the award for Top Country Song for "Cruise." The version of the song played on country radio did not include Nelly.
Alan Jackson won the Top Christian Album award for "Precious Memories, Vol. II."
Carrie and Miranda Lambert debuted "Somethin' Bad," a duet from Miranda's forthcoming album, "Platinum." Each also served as a presenter during the show. Luke performed twice during the live telecast, once solo and once with Florida Georgia Line on their hit, "This Is How We Roll."
Justin Timberlake was the big winner at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, winning seven trophies. Close behind with five was rock band Imagine Dragons.
